Rethinking my regimen

After a lot of thinking and testing on what and does not work for me I began realizing how much of a product junkie I was becoming.

Products I realized were not doing the trick

GVP conditioning balm was not a good deep conditioner it has become my leave in and has done a better job at that

I do not like pre poo and nor does my hair

My hair is protein sensitive

A product solely based on silicones does not make a good deepconditioner

Products that was not benefiting to my hair
Silken n child moisturizer which was replaced by Elasta QP olive oil and mango butter moisturizer
Silicon mix was a good deep conditioner but moisture lasted for a while
GVP Joico K-pak reconstructor my hair is protein sensitive

New methods I learned
Deep conditioning with Honey and olive oil and any regular conditioner before shampoo is beneficial

Deep conditioning

I have been having trouble in keeping the moisture during my deep conditioner after my hair dried. So I learnt of the honey method.

What I did
I placed honey and coconut oil into my deep conditioner which consisted of matrix biolage conditioning balm  (GVP) and olive oil. Although you need to first warm the honey and coconut oil before finally placing the deep conditioner and placing it in hair. Using a plastic cap for 30 minutes after that washing it out with a sulfate free shampoo and then using a conditioner. In this case my sulfate free shampoo was hair one conditioning cleanser and my conditioner was the joico moisture recovery conditioner and placing my leave in.

This I felt help with my moisture problem.

Freshman year of College

This blog will not only be a hair blog but also my experience going through College.

Freshman year 1st semester
This semester is a little bit of relaxation period but I know as years go by it will get harder. The fact that I am a Chemistry major and a pre- med student. The hardwork time and effort will come into place.

Why I chose my major....
I never knew how much I liked Chemistry until my Junior year of High School. It was not an easy time in my AP Chemistry but I knew I couldn't give up. Many people have passed the class with flying colors how come I could not did I mean I was not "smart enough". But I failed to realize and what I have learnt is that no one is born smart it is hard work that makes us smarter and stronger in something. I decided to take on the challenge of Chemistry in College because I wanted that challenge. Although everyone that acts me my major are always making faces saying you must be smart and I reply I just want to work harder.

Moisturizing and Sealing

Moisturizing helps with keeping hair in its tip top shape

I moisturize with silken child moisturizer and then seal with either EVOO or EVCO this helps a lot with my hair moisture balance. These are very cheap and easy to find

Switching from protein to moisture: Deep conditioning

Over protein in the hair can cause brittleness so it is always good to switch. I know that I am protein sensitive so I only use protein during relaxation time or atleast twice a month.

My deep conditioning routine.

1. Prepoo: with olive oil

2. Shampoo: Hair one olive oil cleansing conditioner (sulfate free)

3. Deep conditioner
GVP Conditioning Balm: Matrix biolage balm
  EVOO
My friend's mom conditioner recipe

Wear a plastic bag and condition for 15-30 then wash out

Leave in: Elasta QP moisture retension leave in
              Chi silk infusion

You can air dry *recommended or blow dry at low heat

Self Relaxing???

Due to my fear of salon relaxing I began to look into self relaxing.
Which relaxer did I use
Silk elements shea butter relaxer ( this is really  good)
It is the comparison of Mizani relaxer

Prepping my scalp with: olive oil

How to prevent overprocessing:
After years of learning I have learnt about the method of protection of previously relaxer hair. By placing oils on the previously relaxer hair you can protect your hair.

Prep
1. Prep your hair by placing oil the night before the relaxer
2. Place oil on scalp and then to the ends

Relaxing process:
Make sure to wear a glove
1. Using a precision brush place relaxer on needed relaxed hair staying away from ends and previously relaxed hair and scalp.

2. Using the back of comb or finger smooth and leave on as long as your hair needs to straighten.

A deep burning sensation does not mean relaxer is working any better wash it out to prevent scabs on scalp.

Neutralizing:
Make sure you invest in a good neutralizing shampoo which means getting the hair back to proper PH level leave shampoo on for 5 minutes to make sure of proper neutralization

Putting back protein and keratin in the hair
I used a joico k-pak reconstructor to place protein back in the hair that was lost during the relaxer
then after going in with a deep conditioner

Leave ins I use
Roux 619 leave in treatment
Aphogee Keratin Green tea reconstructor

Blow drying
Chi silk infusion

Flat iron: Biosilk flat iron at 360 degrees

Opening note

Last week I was about to cut off all my relaxed hair and start at fresh. I then realized I cant give up because I  am not visibly seeing the result. This is will only take my personal perserverance and my consistancy. Being a college student it is harder to afford the more expensive products so I began looking at alternatives.
